Any way you look at it, the US spends way more on healthcare than other developed countries. As a share of GDP…

and on a per capita basis:

Americans do pay less out-of-pocket as a share of their country’s overall healthcare expenditures….

but Americans pay way more in actual money:

And that’s a huge problem, because a lot of Americans put off taking meds or seeing a doctor due to cost concerns. I’m not even talking about the uninsured.

No wonder our life expectancy sucks…

Then again, you can’t blame the US healthcare system for everything. Some bad health outcomes are due - at least in part - to other factors, such as diet and genetics. Such as diabetes:

Still, if these charts prove anything, it’s that more healthcare spending is no guarantee of better health outcomes.
