People, Parties, Process, Principles, and Power

I’m stumbling in the dark here, but every once in a while I see a faint glimmer of light: this way! I take a few tentative steps forward…

People endlessly want more than what they have.

Parties are groups of people who cooperate to get what they want. It they get it, they’ll want more.

Process is what people and parties must do to achieve what they want: the rules of the game, permissible moves and constraints.

Principles: Principles are fundamental propositions that guide the pursuit of desire and development of process. If you believe something in principle, you are holding to a general idea of the good and the true.

Power makes it easier to get what you want. Power gets you even more of what you want. Power gets you things you didn’t know you wanted. Power opens up a world of expanding possibility.

The US Constitution is a document that lays out the principles and process of US governance. It is a document that celebrates the pursuit of desire and constrains the pursuit of power.
